I had such a great time this weekend!
Went to a play Saturday afternoon, called Roses on the Rocks with a bunch of people, I knew a few of them but most just met for the first time. Most people were cool, and the play was fantastic! The acting was amazing. Really emotive, passionate quality and kind of a dark story about a prostitute, the devil ghost pimp and wealthy wife. Really enjoyed seeing it all.
Afterwards, we had a chance to ask the actors questions which was a real treat. Got to know them a little better, then went to a nearby lounge and chatted with the author for a bit. It was interesting. When that was done, I went with D in search for a bite to eat. I got the $4 chicken and lamb in pita bread... Mmm, delicious and cheap! Had a nice time talking with D
Then I had to head to go to the NYU Skirball Theater for Kollaberation, an Asian American talent competition. I found it after a bit of asking around and DB didn't show up on time but I ran into EL and her friend so I just sat with them which was good. We were up high, and it was a really fun showcase of musicians- singing and instruments; great dance crews, a comedian and I thought the host was really funny. It was a fun show.
Finally got a hold of DB afterwards, and we had a chance to catch up. It was cool telling her all my stories. She's a great listener. We headed to the Lower East Side to meet RB (his birthday!) at Angels & Kings, a really chill bar infused with red. RB was easy to find and met his friends. They all seemed great, and I kinda liked J but he had come with another gal and he seemed interested in her. Oh well. Still had a good time chatting with him, and everyone.
After awhile, I was craving some fruit, so DB and I took a walk and got a mango flavor ice pop-- Was so good! Went back to Kings & Angels, but left soon after that... We wanted to dance for a bit. Walked over to Urge, the gay bar because that's where RB's other friends were. It was pretty crowded, and hopping since it's gay pride weekend. I met a bunch of RB's gay pals and they were great-- Soo funny and cute! Crazy too.
So, got into Urge. It was too freaking hot in there, and I couldn't find any of the go go strip dancers that I had met last time. Still, we went to the back where there was room to dance and did that for a bit. We left after not too long though, and I went with DB, RB and his incredibly open and hilarious friend D to a nice diner. I wasn't too hungry and I didn't want to ruin my appetite for the Fancy Food show on Sunday so I just ate some strawberries I had just gotten from a fruit stand and that was just fine.
We had some pretty wild conversations about life, women, sex, and all that good stuff. Anyway, it was around 5a when we were done eating, so I wanted to hurry home to get my backpack (for the samples at the Fancy Food Show but it took forever to get back to my place in Flushing. It was soo ridiculous! I got about an hour of sleep...
Sunday, I made it to the Jacob Javits Center for the FANCY FOOD SHOW on time to meet JC and his group of gal friends-- All of them were Asian. They were nice though and I met one guy, MF who I spent the first few hours with roaming the booths from 100-1700...
MF is a really patient guy and good at listening so had a good time. I wanted to try everything, so I took the cheese, crackers, jam, chips, tea, candy, chocolates, and after not too long my stomach started to feel not so good but it wasn't too bad. After that I just started to take 1 bite of everything (the portions were usually huge) And I loved when they had individually wrapped samples to take so I could enjoy it later. I grabbed sooo much gourmet chocolate, candy, cheesecake, some jams and delicious drinks, lollipops, tea bags, and other samples so I have snacks galore!
Probably my favorite foods to sample were the desserts-- Caramel and chocolate sauces, rice crispies, gelato, ice pops, mochi ice cream, little crackers, and so on. It was wonderful!
At one point I really had to use the restroom and the line for ladies was massive so this was this woman who took us two at a time to use the men's room and a bouncer-like dude directing us-- He was really nice though. It was a good system. I'm glad they did that!
Partway through MF and I ran into JC and the rest of the group so that was a nice coincidence. We decided to go upstairs for sitting to take a break and meet up with R and JN. It was good to see them again, and R told all these stories about how she just asked to take more samples and she got soo much stuff! Damn.
After our break, we went to the other floor where it was more specialty foods-- A lot of desserts, some bacon, salmon, savory choices. I enjoyed this floor a lot. Such a great time!
Then we finished around 4p and I hung out with JN for awhile. We took the bus across town and decided we wanted to chill downtown by South St Seaport and take the free Water Taxi to Ikea. It was JN's idea and was soo much fun. I find it incredibly easy to talk wtih JN and I was really glad that he was willing to take so many pictures of me! We chatted about my boy stories, events, Fleet Week, "Gossip Girl" (yes, he's seen some of it!), his girlfriend, work, how I want to move in the city because I'm soo far away and anything else that's been going on.
We walked through the South St Seaport mall-- Very nice place and then to Pier 11 to get on the boat. Got to sit up above, and it was kind of a crazy and rocky ride at parts. Fun though. Such beautiful views of the sunset, skies, bridge, Govenor's Island, Statue of Liberty. Plus, they were playing awesome club tunes so I started dancing to it and they turned it up! As I was leaving, one of the workers complimented me on the dancing which was nice.
We then waited to get on the next boat and while I was boarding, the guy who worked on it noticed me again and said to me, "The dancing queen is back." Nice!
So, we were on top deck again, but this time I stayed standing.. Great feeling the breeze in my face and hair! We met the captain-- He had remembered us from the previous trip, so let us go into the booth where he works and I got to sit on the chair behind the wheel. So cool! Anyway, the music wasn't as hopping on the way back but still not bad and danced a little.
It was time to go home after that since I wanted to relax and lay down. The 7 train was a bit crowded since all these people were going to the Mets game. I still really want to see the Mets Stadium-- One of my friends is getting tickets to the Mets vs. Dodgers game next week and has invited me to come. Yay! Excited about it...
