The past couple of days haven't been miserably cold, much to my happiness. Yesterday I went to a PR & Advertising Industry Expo and gave a bunch of my resumes out for summer internships. My top two are Universal Music Group and Manning Selvage & Lee, so definitely keep your fingers crossed for me. I really need to get on the search for a summer opportunity, but I'm focusing on midterms first.
Today was pretty cool. Went to the Career Center for a CareerPeek event. There was pizza with sausage, NY style but it wasn't so bad. Anyway, Susan Shapiro Barash spoke. She's the author of Tripping the Prom Queen and just out Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets. She talked about being a professional writer then went into why women lie, etc. It was interesting information and what I found to be deeply disturbing was that in the workforce it's 77 cents (that women make) to the dollar (that, obviously, goes to men)...
There were two guest speakers in this evening's Managing Media Relations class. One was a lady from Discovery Channel and she described how she was able to help place Discovery at a higher position in stocks etc. The other person was a journalist from the Financial Times and he had some great suggestions and was pretty much an open book so that was good.
Afterwards, I walked over to Neutral Ground where there was an Apples to Apples (only my favorite game of all time!) game going on upstairs. I'm really glad I showed up because I immediately felt at ease with the group and that I could be myself completely, especially around D (he's so hilarious and fun to joke around with), G, A, and a couple of others. They added me into the game and I got about 3 cards which I thought wasn't too bad. Half the group left after the big game, but there were still five remaining so we continued and I am very proud to announce I was able to get 6 lovely adjective cards, including Cosmic and Hardworking. Very close to winning. Will definitely be coming back to see the gang...
