Last night I went with a couple of family friends to Salinas for Handel's Messiah. It was a very formal, beautiful, intense and lovely affair. I loved the complexity of sound, incredible vocal ability and how it all came together so fluidly. There was such energy and different combinations and use of chorales, arias, recitatives, fugues and more. It was quite impressive and beautiful.
Today's afternoon free Winter Concert at CSUMB was quite charming. A much more casual, fun, festive kind of event. I liked it when there were words of song accompanying the instrument. The holiday songs I enjoyed the most were "Joyeux Noel" which was touching and delightful; and "It Must Have Been the Mistletoe"-- cute and a little naughty. However, my favorite piece was the Duet from Lakme, an absolutely incredible French tune that goes up and down, sweet and high... It's just downright soul-fluttering.
I was supposed to go out with SI tonight but I tried calling her earlier and got no answer. I'm pretty much very fed up with her by now because she has told me a couple of times that we are to hang out, but she never calls me or returns my messages. I know she's not overly busy because her brothers tell me that she's hanging out with CJ, whom I like but when they are together it's not very fun for me because they tend to not include other people in conversations. So I'm giving up in SI for the moment.
Looking forward to tomorrow though. I'll be going with a friend to Santa Cruz and we're setting out early in the morning and will spend the day downtown and then see where else we want to go from there.
