I had a crazy busy past weekend. But it was worth it.
Friday started at the MoMA (free night!) and went with PC, RG, L, and a bunch of others. It was a cool group. We only got through the top 2 floors-- There was so much. Will have to go back another Fri.
We then had food at Shanghai Joe's which was busy so a bit slow but really delicious. We got the fried wontons to tide us until our meal arrived. I had ordered a big fried leek dumpling and special fried rice (with shrimp, pork and chicken). So good! Also had fun conversation with RG, DC, B and the others. They're just good people.
Afterwards, we went to Social which has a third floor rooftop and we found an empty bench perfect for the 5 of us. Had a decent time doing girl talk and getting to know everyone better. We all want to go to Bosotn somtime this summer-- I still haven't been, and have always wanted to go!
Saturday was the visit to the Cloisters all the way up town. It's the museum that's affiliated with the Met and has all Medieval/religious based artwork. I met PC there, and the Cloisters was in the middle of Fort Tyron Park which was absoltutely breathtaking. There was all this greenery, and at great view of part of the city and the river. I really enjoyed the Cloisters museum-- So many different rooms and all the art was displayed so beautifully. I also loved the outdoor areas with the little gardens, fountains, etc. Some of my favorites: the unicorn tapestries and the photography section.
It started to rain in the middle of the afternoon, so we just sat outside under the awning and watched the garden. Then, stopped by the gift shop before leaving. I couldn't decide which picture to get, so I just bought a coloring book of Medieval Tapestries-- It had some of my favorites, and was very inexpensive. Plus, I definitely like coloring! It can be very relaxing.
After the museum, we headed down to Chinatown. I got some rice crepes with roast pork inside which was sooo great. Then, we went to a dessert place and I ordered pudding bubble tea and swirl cheesecake which was good-- Very light and not too sweet.
Then, I headed to Iguana's to see an Italian movie called Facing Windows. On the way up to the room, I met EK who was really interesting and easy to talk to. We became friends instantly. So, I loved the movie. I totally got into it, and enjoyed the hot Italian men with blue eyes! Was definitely a sweet, engagning story.
EK and I left after that, and we hung around Times Square. I grabbed some pretzel and caramel, and we went to Starbucks and sat facing the outside world. We then saw a group of people eating pizza, and we jokingly said it'd be cool if they shared and the next thing we knew, one of the girls came in to give us the rest of the pepperoni and basil pizza, and their fries! Wow, how sweet is that!
When we were done eating, we wandered around Duane Reade for a bit looking through the makeup and magazines. I got myself a new eyeshadow color-- Light purple with pink undertone and a bit of sparkle. And picked up a bunch of crayons for the Cloisters Museum coloring book. Anyway, It was totally fun to hang out with EK!
After that, I decided to go to the Night Lounge at the Night Hotel because F was having an event there. It was nice to see him, and I met some great people. I was talking to a couple of Indian guys and gals at first and they were friendly enough but didn't really adopt me as part of their group so I went back to where F was and he introduced me to a different group of people that I felt a part of immediately. I especially got along with KK. She was so funny, helpful and sweet! She was trying to coach me on how to talk to one of the cuties at the bar... I actually got F to introduce me to him-- He was visiting from London and was actually with a girl. Oh well.
Anyway, some of KK and C's friends came: B, G, and a few other guys. They were pretty cool to chat with, especially B. I got along with him nicely.
Then a bit later when the music got more hip-hoppy, we got our dance on and then there was a suggestion that someone should dance on the table... Without a word, I got up. It's incredibly fun to be up there and be the center of attention!
We stayed at the Night Hotel for quite awhile. When more of the people had left, C opened up the cake (she was celebrating her birthday) and we had some chocolate cheesecake-- Soo rich, decadent, wonderful! Decided to leave after that, and B gave us a ride to Queens so that was cool. Definitely had a good night!
Sunday I met with EH and C to go to Governor's Island for the Figment art event. When we were waiting for the ferry, we ran into some people EH and C knew-- Gareth who is from England (though he's lost most of the accent), R, M and N. They were all right. Pretty funny, really crazy, and definitely perverted minds.
We walked around a little then ran into R whom I haven't seen in awhile so it was good to see him. He took us to the house with three levels and had countless rooms-- Each room had different artwork: Photography, collages, paintings, interactive, sculptures, much more.
There was one room with a white bed where people could write about dreams they had. The directions said you could lay there as well, so I did (pretty comfy) and then C tied my hands up and we got some photos of it. I think I'm the only person who would agree to that...
After going through the house, we got a bite to eat and headed back to Manhattan. We went up to the Big Apple Snapple BBQ but it was pretty late in the day when we got there and the lines were very long, and mostly closed so we didn't get any food from the festival. So, M (who met us at the BBQ) took us to a nearby BBQ restaurant. The food took forever, but was amazing: I got half rack of Baby back ribs and some mac and cheese as well as sweet potato fries. And we had some crazy conversation, but all in good fun and the final bill was not so much because one of the meals were comp'd (they ran out of mac and cheese).
After the meal, most of the group went away but I stayed with M and C to go to ESPNZone to catch basketball game. LA Lakers vs Orlando Magics-- Guess who I was rooting for. Anyway, M and I walked with C to her car and I found out they're going to the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island next weekend so I'll stick with them. When we got to ESPNZone, C decided not to come since she was tired but I wanted to meet M's Swiss friend so I went with him.
CV, the Swiss guy wasn't blond and blue eyed but he was still cute. And he had that really lovely accent. I enjoyed talking to him; he just seeemd to be a really sweet and fun guy. I'm glad I got to meet him and spend some time with him.
We decided not to stay at ESPNZone-- No place to sit, long wait for food. M took us to Hooters and CV wanted to take a cab even though it was only about 12 blocks away. Somehow, we made it by walking... Haha. We got some wings and fried pickles. It was all right. Definitely not the greatest wings though. Still, had fun just chilling with M and CV, watching the end of the game (Go Lakers!) and being out.
