We flew Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong first... Took about 13.5 hours. I enjoyed inflight entertainment: Watched 27 Dresses, Jumper, part of PS I Love You and Kite Runner. The last film was terrific, showcasing horrifying events and had a beautiful and hopeful ending. Took little naps in between. Listened to a couple of the radio stations.
Didn't have to wait long in Hong Kong til we boarded DragonAir to Shanghai. On this flight, watched a sitcom and listened to my own CD. Arrived fairly quickly, got through customs and our suitcases without a hitch and then I immediately spotted my relatives outside!
So good to see them. I gave most of them hugs, but they weren't used to that greeting, but that's okay. Chatted with Da Wei, one of my cousins and sat shot gun next to Zhon Ni. It was a nice ride to my grandparent's place, with the AC full blast.
Wonderful to see my grandparents. Got to relax, talk a bit, prepare for sleep. My grandmother gave me a nice pearl ring and 1,000 RMB (divide by 7 = USD) which was incredibly sweet and generous. I'll have to try not to spend it all too fast.
Slept easily and comfortable in a little room with lots of window. I thought I would wake up pretty late, but it was around 6:20AM when I got out of bed. I guess I just wake up earlier in China. I went to the market with my grandmother and she bought me a green onion pancake... They're greasy so I can only have this once in a great while. It was fun to watch the guy make it though.
After a short nap, my parents and I walked to Carrefour (grocery store) and we got a bunch of cold drinks and little snacks.
Back at my grandparents, we had lunch. I ate soup, fish and mostly vegetables. Didn't have a lot because my stomach was bothering me so after resting awhile, felt much better.
Walked with my mom to one of my aunt's place... She's very stylish and cosmopolitan so she would know a great place for me to get my haircut. The salon was actually right below the apartment building and I got such amazing treatment. They washed my hair and gave me a massage. They also critiqued the way I looked so that I felt like I was on "America's Next Top Model." My eyes are big and beautiful, lashes long and full, lips pretty -- Basically, a gorgeous face but I've got to work on my body a little bit.
After all that, the best guy in the house cut my hair... I wanted very pronounced layers (had a picture example) and that's exactly what he gave me. It looked so gorgeous and he also blowdryed and styled it to have curls at the ends with my hair parted on the right side. Love it, love it, love it!
So now just relaxing and going to visit with many more relatives in the next days...
