The weather's getting colder by the day it seems and it's snowed twice, but not enough to have any on the ground. I do love feeling and seeing the little mists of white though. It sure beats rain, at least in my book.
I've been trying to enjoy and explore this week as school or my internship hasn't started yet. There have been a couple of orientation meetings down at the main campus at Grenwich Village. I found it really easy to find everything there and it was pretty nice. Anyway, I thought I'd meet loads of people, especially at the big one but thus far, not really. I didn't realize it'd be so difficult to meet people being a graduate student coming in during the Spring semester. I only have a couple new numbers...
It was good to learn about some money saving tips, grad life 101, the career center, more about my program and meeting my advisor. The grad office hosts a lot of really fun sounding events so I made sure to sign up for the list-serv and I found all the student clubs so I signed up to get info on the ones that interested me. Hopefully there will be get-togethers and such through that soon. We also got NYU shiny and slick business card holders, NYU planners, NYU paper and post it's, NYU folders and such which was pretty cool.
Today I went to a bunch of places, starting with the World Trade Center, which is downtown, and I found that I really don't like that area. After going through Century 21, a discount clothing store (though I found their clothes to be unhip and the prices still too high... It certainly was no Ross or Crossroads), I couldn't get out of that area fast enough.
Decided to visit the Upper East Side. Much better. Huge sigh. I really fell in love with that place. It was even sunnier and warmer there! I saw Central Park and then made my way to the Metropolitan Museum. I loved it. You pay how ever much you want to and there was just tons to see from Asian to Egyptian art to European masters to print, drawing and photography to modern art to sculpture to Impressionist works. I tried to see every room and one of my favorites was the Temple of Dendur which is a complete temple reconstructed inside a spectacular glass pyramid.
I made my way back to W. 42nd Street (Times Square) to get to the theater, where I met up with a meetup group. They were really nice and friendly. We saw Mad Money and Katie Holmes was in it so I wanted to watch it and it turned out to be a really fun funny kind of movie. It was cute.
Afterwards we went to a Thai food place. I got the Basil Noodles with chicken and lots of veggies. I also tried some dumpling and crispy duck in tamarind sauce. At dinner, I had some more in depth conversations and that was pretty cool. One of the gals in the group is a psychic and she told me a bit about my future... Evidently I'm going to be really successful (so much that she even gave me her business card). Sounds good to me. And while everyone else wanted to know details about what was going to happen in their lives, I found that I prefer to not know... I like surprises, I want to not expect, and happens will happen.
Anyway, I enjoyed going out with them and will be in touch with them again. AE lives in Queens as well so we took the subway together which was nice. I just cannot wait to meet more guys though... I mean I've talked to a few and some try to start a conversation (aka hit on me) with me while I'm walking down the street, but those aren't the kind of guys I fall for. There's definitely more females who go to NYU and I find that there's a bit of a lack of white guys while walking around the city. I'm quite sad about it actually.
