I had a wonderfully fun 4th of July weekend!
Started Independence Day off traveling to Coney Island with AW and met with her friend downtown. We got to Coney Island in time for the hot dog eating contest which was crazy. Joey Chestnut broke the record by stuffing 68 hot dogs down his throat in only 10 minutes time! Craaazy.
I decided to get a bite to eat at Nathan's before the line got really long so left AW and S. I got the peppers and onion hot dog, along with fries. Pretty darn good. Except after that I couldn't find the girls and my phone had died so decided to head home to charge it, have a really delicious homemade meal and get ready for the evening.
I met with RG at the Union Square theater and we stopped by the store for some hummus, crackers then went to CS's apartment for a rooftop party on 50th and 9th Ave. It was a truly beautiful night and it was great to see CS as well as meet the other people who came. We had such a great view of the fireworks-- all 6 sychronized perfectly, all colorful and cute shapes. I met these 2 guys, and liked D in particular-- He was really funny and cute. I wanted to keep talking to him, but I had plans to go to M2 (formerly Mansion) with MG after fireworks.
I took the downtown bus to get to the club, and MG was already there. We met a couple of promoters and went in with them. AW and 2 of her friends came later but were still able to get in. We started off the night downstairs in the center at a table. It was really nice. Didn't love the music though, so after a bit we moved to the hip hop room. It was somewhat better, though this black guy started dancing with me and I wasn't that into it. Oh well.
I decided to stay out the rest of the night because wanted to get in line for Shakespeare in the Park ("Twelfth Night" starring Anne Hathaway) and I knew I had to get there super early. I made it around 6:30a and the line was huge. The couple in front of me let me share their blanket and after awhile some guy came around saying there's no chance of getting tickets this far down so a ton of people left and I got further up in the line.
Then, a security guy who works for the theater came and was soo much nicer. He told the people ahead of us they were on the "grass of uncertainty" and we were on the "pebbles of doom." He was also incredibly hot, sexy, delicious tall blond! I couldn't help but keep looking at him, and want to be with him!
Anyway, I met two funny girls while in line and had a nice time chatting with them, and we decided to stick it out becaus even though security guy told us there's basically 0 chance... He also conceded that it's possible. So we had to wait there til 1p. We got really close. There were maybe 20 people ahead of us, and turns out the last people to get tickets got in the line by 5:45A. Wow!
So now we were in front of the standby line but if we wanted to get those tix, would have to stay til showtime at 8p. I was torn at first but decided it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and I can meet with L another day, I settled in and met a bunch of great people-- We had lovely conversation about traveling, experiences in NY, and so on. We also shared food, took naps. It was nice actually and such a beautiful day out!
Around dinner time I got some gelato-- Coffee and strawberry. Mmm! Then started talking to a couple that had told us earlier since we're in front of the Standby line will definitely get tix, and they were soo nice. The gal called me Ms. Popular and wanted to make friends with me earlier-- She should've! I gushed to her about the security guy, and he came around again before 8p. I wanted to get a picture with him but they're not allowed to... Ahh well.
And yes we did get tickets. I had pretty good seats in the lower right side of the stage and "Twelfth Night" was amazing-- Such a great performance. Anne Hathaway was delightful, the other actors were great as well and it was just a fun, light hearted, interesting story. I'm very glad I got to see it.
Monday night right after my internship I headed to Elevated Acre down on Water St to meet with CS, A, K, MJ, D and a bunch of others for an outdoor picnic and to see The Seven Year Itch (Marilyn Monroe) that was to be played later. I found them easily, and met a few others- Everyone was pretty chill and there was a lot of food: Chicken curry, gourmet chocolate chips, pringles, pizza (yumm!), great salad, and grapes, cherries, cheese and crackers... Lovely spread.
I played Scrabble with a couple of people, and M was on my team. He's nice-- Just moved here from PA and will be starting NYU PhD program in the fall. Then, the movie started around 9p, and it was thoroughly engaging and fantastically humourous. Definitely enjoyed it.
After watching, went to a nearby Restaurant bar with M and talked awhile over a drink. We discussed the city, places we've been and want to go to, things we like, so on. It was fun to hang out.
Tonight I'll be watching the Mets vs Dodgers game with T... I'm looking forward to it. Want to see the new stadium, and am sure will have great conversation with T. I hope there will be a lot of hits, homeruns this time around and no rain!
